The distance from the ground up is greatly reflected from my gaze.<\/p>\n<p>Once the ride slows down and reaches the bottom I can see people with cotton candy, balloons, popcorn; children &#8212; stuffed toys held in their grips, walking, laughing, looking attentively at everything with excitement; true glee.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re just wasting time.<\/p>\n<p>I try to hold back my doubt, my numbness.<\/p>\n<p>Soon the ground and the crowds disperse from my vision. The gravitational pull of the machine lifts me high into the sky.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t care how many times I pay the tolled fee&#8230; I&#8217;m going to reach the stars tonight. I&#8217;m going to wait &#8217;til the sun rises up above that far away hill announcing the dawn of a brand new day.<\/p>\n<p>This ferris wheel is my only escape right now.<\/p>\n<p>That same image of your smiling face is forever lingering in my mind. All I want is to not feel so completely alone.<\/p>\n<p>And now that your presence is not near, now that my arms are not wrapped &#8217;round your porcelain shoulders, all I have is me.<\/p>\n<p>Not with you. Not you there to help me make it through. On my own.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A blue sky nestles above the earth.<\/p>\n<p>Pale clouds popularize our atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>Far ahead, I imagine a happy setting.<\/p>\n<p>Soil softens underneath my ratty, old converse.<\/p>\n<p>Trees correspond with one another.<\/p>\n<p>Wind wrestles rooftops.<\/p>\n<p>Hair cascades in front of my face.<\/p>\n<p>K. lingers for a bit.<\/p>\n<p>I tumble down the hill.<\/p>\n<p>Dandelions devour the green grass.<\/p>\n<p>We admire the view of the field.<\/p>\n<p>I long to be emancipated from your sinister blue irises.<\/p>\n<p>You were the subject of my refined smock.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Reinstate my dependency upon you!&#8221; I shout.<\/p>\n<p>If only I had done this&#8230; I should have&#8230; I could&#8217;ve&#8230; I needn&#8217;t have cause&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts swirling in manifested vat of limitless plights.<\/p>\n<p>Strangling my voice, constricting my vocal cords.<\/p>\n<p>I will avenge him.<\/p>\n<p>Let his beautiful lady paint a mess of betrayal, cheeseparing, truth.<\/p>\n<p>Permit catastrophes to bruise her very soul.<\/p>\n<p>My rhapsody is to deny propensity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Editor&#8217;s note: These two poems were submitted by Caitlin, a sophomore at Liberty High.
