{"id":189,"date":"2005-05-01T00:09:20","date_gmt":"2005-05-01T06:09:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chartervision.org\/archive\/189"},"modified":"2007-01-25T08:52:12","modified_gmt":"2007-01-25T14:52:12","slug":"winter-symposium-celebration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.sdho.org\/2008\/01\/chartervision\/archive\/189\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter Symposium Celebration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite frigid temperatures on Monday, January 17 [2005], Harbor City International School students participated in Duluth&#8217;s Martin Luther King Day celebration by attending the 7:00 a.m. community breakfast at the Copper Top church, marching from Washington Center to the DECC, and participating in the rally at the DECC Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Participation in the Martin Luther King Day events was part of a Winter Symposium class in which students studied the life of Martin Luther King, the Civil Rights movement, civil disobedience, and racism of the past and present.<\/p>\n<p>Students in the class were privileged to have Claudi Washington, local president of the NAACP, and Will Cameron, desegregation officer for Duluth Public Schools, speak to their class.<\/p>\n<p>The class will be offered again next January with even more opportunities to participate in Duluth\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Martin Luther King Day celebration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite frigid temperatures on Monday, January 17 [2005], Harbor City International School students participated in Duluth&#8217;s Martin Luther King Day celebration by attending the 7:00 a.m. community breakfast at the Copper Top church, marching from Washington Center to the DECC, and participating in the rally at the DECC Auditorium.
